As MD of Positive Experience it’s not often I get away for something that isn’t a site visit, but when you get offered a trip to the Oatly HQ and factory in Sweden, you have to say yes! At least, I did…
And as it turned out, the best flights for me to take weren’t to Malmö, but were just a hop, skip and bridge away in Copenhagen. Who am I to argue? A couple of extra days in Denmark, all in the name of research? Sold.
Copenhagen Cool More like Copenhagen freezing, but I still managed to soak up some of the quirky things this city has to offer. Coffee and snacks, of course, a chilly swim and cheeky sauna (very Scandi), followed by a super-cool barge tour of the harbour. I loved taking the lift up CopenHill – a ski slope, climbing wall and rooftop park built on top of a waste-to-energy power plant. Talk about making sustainability fun. Unfortunately, I visited on a very cloudy day but in the absence of a view, it was amazing to see such innovation. The evening agenda was just as epic: food and drinks with friends in the Meat Packing District. I’m a sucker for old-school industrial vibes and this ticked all the boxes.
Hej Oatly! Off to Malmö I went. We had a super smooth train ride, thanks to my travel companion and Oatly insider Navid Lohrasb – luckily, with no “The Bridge” style drama (IYKYK). Seeing where the oaty magic happens was just incredible. The office is SO Oatly and unique! Definitely something we at Positive Experience | B Corp Certified can aspire to!
Then it was off to the factory in Landskrona, which was waaaay bigger than I imagined. I even spotted some of the event gear we use in the UK, too. Huge pink Oatly flag? Check!
Malmö munchies: Having had such a successful trip, I rounded off with some celebratory drinks in Malmö. What was I celebrating? Well, it felt quite a feat managing a few days away that were fun, inspiring and vaguely work-related. It can be hard as a business owner to prioritise these kinds of trips but they really pay off. I came home buzzing with design ideas, my brain whirring from seeing different people, fashions, culture and ways of doing things. What a few days it was!
